About me

Hello! Thanks for stopping by!

My 16-year teaching career includes teaching 2nd grade (2 years) and 4th-5th Title Reading (2 years), but the majority of my career has been spent teaching K-5 ELLs.  Most recently, I entered 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms on a daily basis and co-taught reading, language, and writing with several inspiring classroom teachers.

In 2012, I was introduced to the world of TeacherspayTeachers, and I began creating materials in October of that year.  In 2014, I decided that I couldn't continue to try to "do it all", and resigned from my teaching position to focus on TpT full-time for a few years, which I am currently doing now.

My #1 priorities will always be God and my family.  I have a wonderfully-supportive husband of 12 years, Troy, and two daughters who are growing up much too quickly for my liking!  My 14-year-old, Kayla, is an 8th grader, and 11-year-old Brooke is in 6th grade.

No, I'm not lucky enough to live in warm Arizona.  These photos were taking during our summer roadtrip!

I actually live in a small town in Iowa.  If you look at the point on the U.S. map where Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota meet, that's my home. This photo was taken by Jessica Suing Photography.

My twin sister (and best friend!), Dawn, is my silent partner.  I can thank her for getting this blog up and running for me, and always being my willing proofreader, cover designer, and occasionally even a passage writer!

If you ever have any questions or suggestions, email me at deb@crafting-connections.com.

Thanks for visiting my blog!  I hope that you'll come back again!

  1. Good Afternoon,
I made a comment on your Teachers Pay Teachers site as well, I wanted to share your free fluency posters with my parents in my newsletter and I will give you full credit. Please let me know soon as I would like to send out the newsletter next week. I've been looking for a way to explain fluency to them and I think this is it!
    Thanks

  2. Hello! I am a first year teacher at a small school. I am the only one in fourth grade teaching English classes. This morning, I had no idea how I was going to teach show vs. tell in order to continue our personal narratives. I came across your page while looking for something to help. Let me tell you, I found everything I needed in order to teach it. My students actually understood what I was talking about, and I was able to explain it in a quick but understanding way. Thank you for helping me out.
